Old putty in windows

We have got rain leaking in from where the putty and paint have cracked on the bottom edges of the outside of our wooden windows which is causing the wood to rot. Do we have to remove all the old putty in order to re-seal the glass or is there a quicker way of weather proofing the windows? We don't own the property so don't want to spend too much time / money re-glazing 50+ panes of glass. Any advice would be appreciated

Your landlord should be dealing with this. In his absence, use a waterproof acrylic sealant. This is overpaintable and will stop the water ingress. DO NOT use silicon mastic as this is not paintable.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Thank you. We are due to have a meeting with the landlord later this month so fingers crossed they won't fob us off this time!0
