City Link Parcels

I hope someone can help me and that this is the right place.
I sold an item today on amazon that has the dimensions of 64cm x 64xm x 3cm and weighs 3.2kg or thereabouts. I bought some mailing bags a while ago that the item could fit in.
I was reading about the do's and don'ts on city links website and it mentions about a packaging box. I haven't got one and haven't been able to find a suitable one with the required dimensions. Would a mailing bag be okay for city link deliveries?
I've already booked the collection, just don't know if I should try and find a box. As you can see I've never done a collection before for business purposes. The only other collection I've done was a return for an unwanted product that was in a box so I'm just confused really. I know they state a box just to get that protection for the item, but just wondering if the box is a must.
Hope someone can help.

Via Parcel Monkey, City Link do a cheaper service for items packed in mailing bags...

I know its no good for you as your parcel is too big for that particular service but it does show that City Link will accept mailing bags.
Best thing to be sure is to phone City Link directly.0 -

Tried phoning them, was on the phone for more than 10 minutes and still nobody picked up. Really frustrating. Left a message for them so hoping they get back to me asap.
Parcelmonkey is actually who I booked through. Collection scheduled for monday, hoping they do accept it as I have no other options at the moment.0 -
The guy picking it up won't know which service you booked so I doubt he will refuse to take it. Its whether they question it at the depot or not.0

I just got through to them. The lady I spoke to mentioned that if it's not in an appropriate package then the delivery guy might refuse to collect. I asked her if it was a requirement to use a box or if I could use a mailing bag and when I told her what it was I was sending, she said I could use a mailing bag but if the driver thought it wasn't suitable then he wouldn't collect it for delivery. I guess I have to hope that they do deem it to be suitable.0

make it bomb-proof, my theory to packing stuff for any courier delivery
Thought this would be a great moment to share with people how I test my packaging: wrap and item up, drop it from the forth floor, see if it survives, if it does that's how I package the rest of those items that I sell, if it doesn't, I try again0 -
In my experience, CL are fine with mailing bags, even for the too-big-for-mailing-bag-service stuff. But then again most of my stuff is soft and rectangular and fits well in (large) mailers - if a dodgy shape with bits sticking out then you'd want a box. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

Ha ha, I will picture that now every time I pack something. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
We send stuff all the time with city link, we have to pack in black bin bags due to the size of the item were sending - never had any problems.0
