Water meter where we want drop kerb

Options
Hi,

We are in the process of getting a dropped kerb put in, my husband has been sorting out the driveway (had to remove brick wall) and we have just realised (yes, I already knew this, but didn't think about it) that our water meter is on our 'driveway' (In the pavement, but where we will want to drive over) and so when we come to have the dropped kerb put in they will have to tarmac over this, and to a higher level as there is a slight incline from the path to our drive.

Will this be an issue - will we still be able to have the dropped kerb?

Sorry if this sounds really silly, but never thought about it before and will be gutted if we've done all this work and then can't park on our own driveway.

Surely they must come accross this issue and can deal with it?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

They won't tarmac over it they'll tarmac around it. No problem.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Phew, that's what I had hoped, but it's just that it is quite an incline and so was worried how they would manage that.

It will be about a 4" increase, so will they jast tarmac up and around it so that we can still access ok?
    - I like to check my readings regularly so I can keep an eye on my usage :T

    Thank you :D

The council will arrange with the water board to come and adjust the height of the water meter at the same time as the council contractors are doing the work. I had some faff when I got the council to retarmac the path across the entrance to my driveway - the council guy wanted me to arrange for the water board to sort out the meter. After some too-ing and frow-ing the guy at the water board realised I was the customer and not the council, and took the arrangements off my hands and sorted it direct with the council. One day I came home and it had all been sorted. :)

Wow, massive thank you, that is a huge weight off my mind that is has happened before and can easily be dealt with. Thank you :j

Just to finish off the remaining work then to get the surveyor out to get things moving.

Quite scared at what the price might be though...

    Thanks again

The bottom of the meter should be at least 75cm below ground level, else the pipes may freeze.

So the meter is normally in a tube, they will cut this down to the reduced ground level and refit the cover.

Don't worry if the meter ends up not the full 75cm down, but make sure the normal block of polystyrene is in the tube.
