leylandi hedge questions

sorry if this is not the right place.

I have bought some small leylandi saplings ready for planting. I want to plant them in pits as there not very big yet, I just wondered if I can pout them in pots for a while till they get a bit of growth or is this bad for them ?>

They are pretty resilient. We were given some 4-5 years ago and they are still in the same pots. Not looking very healthy now so make sure the pot is big enough if they are to stay in them for any length of time.

They will probably be fine in the ones they come in for a year or so.

A cared for leylandi hedge is great. Once they get 12"-18" higher than you want them, top them and then prune/trim like a hedge.

A leyandi tree in the wrong place is just a nuisance.

You could put them in pots and it won't harm them as long as they don't dry out, but they'll grow much better/quicker if you plant them in the ground.

Do keep them clipped and they'll make a nice hedge - let them grow unchecked and they'll soon be a nuisance to you and your neighbours.
