What do you class as a cup? I am looking at a recipe but the water and flour are in cups not grams/ Oz. Is a cup a mug or a tea cup?

I am guessing as it is dough that what ever size cup I use as long as I keep the ratio the same that it won't really matter.

Sounds like an American recipe in which case a cup is a measure that holds 8 fluid oz - not the same as 8 oz of flour ;)
  • A cup is equivalent to 250 ml

I've been using a teacup that looks a bit smaller than my mugs, but when I actually got round to measuring it, they both hold exactly the same. Nine fluid ounces filled to the top!

Thanks for bringing this Phil, it has always confused me too.

So I should get away with using a tea cup?

You won't go far wrong using a tea cup. I have a set of American measuring cuos but if they are in the DW I often substitute a tea cup. HTH
