Wireless router

A couple of months ago I was having problems with my sky bb router. Sometimes while I'm in the middle of doing something all bar one light go out and the internet would stop working. No telephone calls are being received at the time so I know its not that. Sometimes switching it on and off helped but Sky sent me a replacement power supply (well, they sent me two because the first time I called up they were out of stock and he forgot to backorder one for me) and that worked for a month.

Now its gone again, and Sky are sending me ANOTHER power supply. I told Sky that I'd tried it with the two they sent me previously and both only worked for a short period, and it might possible be the router. The router is 4 years old and the older Sagem models. But they charge £29 for a basic or £35 for a better model.

Can I buy them cheaper elsewhere? Should I switch so I can get a 'free' router elsewhere, I live in Birmingham and I have checked that I can get pretty much any other bband service I want but I get all my service, phone, line rental, tv, from Sky.

On another note, freecycle/freegle in my area has recently been overrun with people offering wireless routers, if I picked up any of them would they work or does it need to be a specific Sky router?

Spend a decent £50 - £80 on a good router - Netgear, Linksys etc. It's worth it. Some of the Sky/BT ones are just not enough.
