Faulty computer

Hi, I bought a new Acer netbook from a web company called Student Computers last August. Just over Christmas it has developed a fault which now means it will not connect wirelessly to the internet. I contacted said firm and they referred me straight to Acer with a telephone number and said I must deal with them as the unit is under warranty. I then phoned the no., which referred me to their website. I duly filled in the serial no. and it brought up the details of the netbook including the fact that the warranty ran out in June of 2011!! I phoned the Acer no. again and spoke to a very far away Indian lady who said I needed to send proof of purchase so they could update the details on their system. This I did, (it was the online invoice) but now they are telling me that it isn't valid as it doesn't contain the serial/model no. for my actual machine.
My question is, before I phone Student Computers and complain, what are my rights and who is my contract actually with, the seller or the manufacturer? Any help greatly appreciated.

your contract is with the seller, although that's only for a hardware issue. If it's a corrupt driver rather than a faulty part then the fault isn't covered under warranty.0

A stupid question possibly, but do you know why it won't connect to the interweb? IMO, this is one of the most common faults with wireless devices and usually easily resolved.
Is there another computer you could use to connect to the net and google any error messages you're getting/the symptoms you have? IME, there are fixes readily available on the net for all sorts of problems including downloading a new driver (if yours is corrupt)."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Many thanks for your replies, I think you are right in that it is a faulty driver and if I can fix it myself I think I will try, but now my main concern is that the warranty is invalid! Will post again when I have spoken to the seller this am. Thank again for your help.0
