I have just posted this in a 6 month old thread in Car insurance.

In essence: on purchasing an insurance from Aviva (and the thread also mentions LV doing the same) and supplying 9 years full NCD. Aviva issue, after another 1 year term, a document saying you have 5 years NCD. So therefore you can only put this figure on the next quote application.

"I am in the same situation. I have 30 years of NCB, which used to be classed as 9, I renewed with Aviva last year and now have a document saying 5, so in effect 4 plus the full year with Aviva.

Their are arguments on here to say that it makes no difference. Obviously from people who are not with Aviva or similar companies, and who are not getting in quotes. I can assure you it really does make a difference and the insurers know it.

Someone said scam is an over used word. May be.I feel this is a scam as it is a trap designed to hoodwink you and limit free choice. At best it is sharp practice to get you to stay with Aviva. It limits your options considerably.

I shall try and contact the MSE team and get them to run the figures for themselves and see if they can prove unfair practice."

Please could someone look into this and find a way to combat it so the NCD we have is the one we get, rather than the one Aviva decides to pass on.

Sorry but what exactly do you want the mse team to do, they just make sure the forum runs smoothly and remove posts etc. The MSE team aren't super sleuths who can change a firms policy.

re aviva and the NCB i think aviva only go up to 4 or 5 so if you have max number of years then only option is to put 4 down, if your not happy then go elsewhere.

I am not sure why you are asked here. Some insurance will only give a maximum of 5 years some will do it longer, thats just there policy nothing you can do about it other than use another company but aske them for your x years NCD when you do

someone else mentioned Aviva on another thread. the advice offered was not to bother, as they limit their NCD and go with the AA as they take into account the full NCD.

Don't think MSE will be able to help with this one.
