Just got a new smart LED TV (Samsung) which has internet connection capability.
Handbook says it can connect to internet using a samsung wireless USB adapter. However, these cost about £50. DAK if they will work with a general basic USB wireless adapter?

no u got to use the samsung wireless USB adapter have try others my self does not work0 -
In simplish terms - USB wireless dongles require drivers (a set of instructions for the computer/TV) to work. The Samsung TVs only have drivers built-in for the Samsung dongles, and (short of hacking the TV's software...if it's even possible) drivers for other dongles cannot be downloaded into the TV's software.
However, there does appear to be a cheaper alternative http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-Wireless-300Mbps-suitable-Samsung/dp/B0013DUOO0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1325846940&sr=8-2Squirrel!If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
Or you could go down the home plug route, I bought a Panasonic TV over Christmas and after thinking about using a wifi dongle which may or may not work I just bought a couple of home plugs for £35.
Did think of using Ethernet cable which would give you the best connection but it would be to much hassle hiding it away and the next best thing was home plugs.0 -
if you have a blu-ray player (BD live)too and wireless router why not get a wireless access point/wireless ethernet switch/wireless ethernet adapter

How near is your TV to the router,I have my Sony smart TV connected to the BB router with a ethernet cable,a much better way of connecting than a wireless dongle, and a lot cheaper too0

wireless router is in hall, TV is in living area. An ethernet cable would not be possible unless i lifted carpets/boards etc.
What is an ethernet switch/adapter?0 -
their a basically a router that uses WiFi for the main connection instead of a BT line or cable (thats very simple terms )
and some can extend your WiFi too

Agree with banger.
see this thread from post #16 onwards for how to do it with the TP-Link - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3332832604!0 -
Just received the TP-Link home plugs this morning from amazon and took less than a few minutes to set them up to my Panasonic tv, plug one into a socket next to your tv and connect the ethernet cable, plug the other next to your modem/router and connect the ethernet cable and just press the pair button on each.
Far easier than faffing around with wireless connections and more stable.
