Washer/dryer too large

Evening all...
I am close to completing a house renovation and putting finishing touches now such as fitting appliance, carpets etc. I purchased a Bosch washer/dryer to fit Howdens kitchen cupboard last month (Dec 10th) from local, independent Electronics store with good rep. Due to on-going work we only took machine out of packaging yesterday (4th Jan) and attempted to plumb it in. It was then that we noticed the machine was too large for door to be put to enclose it, in keeping with remaining kitchen area.
I immediately called the local store and related problem, asking for an exchange for smaller item of similar value or refund. It was then the store manager told me i was effectively stuck with it as it had come out of packaging and was a week later than original sale date. Although he would be happy to source another suitable alternative for a discounted price perhaps.
Now at first I accepted this and said I would consider my options. However, upon reflection...as the item is in perfect order and with packaging etc...is there NOTHING within my rights to get a refund?? Sales act or something, forgive my ignorance on the matter.
Any relevant, helpful advice asap is much appreciated, thanks.

Hi
No sorry - I assume you researched what machine you required and ordered it from your chosen supplier. If you got the model wrong then it is your fault. Officially you can only return the product if there was a fault with it but as I assume the product is fine you have no recourse.
For the sake of good customer relations I would expect the retailer to take the machine back and supply you with another with a restocking fee for the original machine as they would have to incur costs to collect the old unwrapped machine and have to sell it off at a discounted price.
But before all that, why doesn't it fit exactly as all fully integrated washer driers as far as I am aware are the same size. W: 597 mm x H: 820 mm x550/560 mm.
What is the model number of the machine you purchased and what is the size of the furniture door you have from Howdens?

Not quite sure I understand the problem - maybe there isn't one really?
Sounds like you have a base unit which you intended to install the appliance into?
Most, if not all appliances like this, fit into a 'gap' where the unit would 'normally' be, and you fix the door (595mm) to the appliance itself... certainly the way for a Bosch WKD28540GB...
Take the unit out and install the machine.. simples... but I've probably got the wrong end of the stick as usual!

I suspect its a freestanding machine that OP has sourced and obviously it isn't going to work. If its a built in machine, there is more to it that whats been posted. If its a Bosch machine, its GOT TO work.
Regards to taking the machine back, CK is right. The retailer is well within his rights to refuse to take it back and any returns are strictly discretionary with restocking fee/additional delivery charge applicable. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
yes I was guessing as above as well that OP has not bought an integrated machine? Just be polite to shop and see how they can minimise the transfer cost to the correct type of machine. You are relying on goodwill nothing else0
