Tesco cancelled my order Grrrrr - help pls

Hiya,
Can someone pls help me and maybe give me a bit of advise?? I placed an order with Tesco at the end of December for a video game. I received an email a few days later to say the item was not in stock and they would be receiving it on the 16th of Jan and will dispatch ASAP. Then a couple of weeks later I received another email saying the same but it would be dispatched at the end of Jan. I didnt hear anything else so (stupidly) presumed it was on the way. The other day I decided to chase the order and realised I could check the status. When I checked it it said the order was cancelled on the 25th of Jan. I was absolutely fuming. This game was for my daughter and I have been telling my her we should receive the game any day now. I rang customer services and they said that they could not get the item (in the near future) from their supplier so they decided to cancel the order. They said that maybe I should look elsewhere for the game.
The reason why Im so annoyed is because they cancelled my order without notifying me (it says in their terms and conditions that they will notify you if the item is no longer available) and they did not ask me of I wanted to cancel the order. We ordered this item at a sale price so obviously when this item comes back into stock I wont be able to buy it at the sale price again. They are still advertising this item online at a higher price with a note underneath saying usually delivered in 14 days. I have emailed Tesco regarding this and explained the above and I received an email just apologising and saying that I ordered the game with Tesco Jersey and the stock showing online is with Tesco Extra. Blah blah blah.
My question if you have managed to get this far is what rights do I have when a company don't stick to their own terms and conditions (not notifying me that the item was available), also can they just cancel my order , should they offer me a subsitute and if they have stock available on Tesco extra (and stock that is advertised on the same website) why can they not send me that stock.
I have been going through loads of websites trying to find out my rights and because this is not so straight forward Im not sure if I have a right to complain. I wouldnt be bothered but my daughter is so upset about this and I just think it stinks.
Thank you in advance and sorry for the essay.

As far as I know, an order is just a request to supply an item.
If they cannot supply it, then they can just cancel the order.
Nothing to stop you complaining, but I don't think you have any "rights" as such, as nothing is faulty and you haven't lost any money on it.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
Exactly so, unfortunately. Because of the way English contract law works the repercussions for breaking a contract in this way are usually nothing (assuming there was a contract at all), because you've suffered no loss, apart from maybe the difference between the sale price and normal market value, which they'll never agree about. The best you can do is let them know you and your daughter's extreme disappointment and tell them if they're prepared to simply leave it at that you'll be spending your money elsewhere.0

Hiya, riddlesticks, Tesco have let me down on games and dvd orders loads of times, i don't even bother with them anymore. When i want to buy a game i use this site http://uk.gamestracker.com/ to compare prices at several different online stores, try it you may even find the game you are after cheaper.
I hope this helps.
