HSBC mortgage life cover

Being my first post on the forum and if im honest a little clueless on the whole PPI claim back situation then please go gentle with me.
I took out a product called Flexi-Life with decreasing Life and critical illness for mortgage protection cover in 2005. I did this when applying for my first ever mortgage. I was told at the time that this was essential in order for the mortgage to be agreed with the lender.
After a little bit of research it seems that this product along with others was pulled from sale by HSBC around 2008 and in fact after reading the small print of my old mortgage agreement this policy was not as stated at the time..essential.
I am still paying into the policy eventhough I don`t have a mortgage with HSBC anymore (will be ending it however). I kept it going on the advice of an advisor on the phone who said it was still worth having as a form of life insurance. Thinking about it now that seems ridiculous as its decreasing cover!
Anyway I do believe i was mis sold the protection and was wondering whether i could claim anything back?
Any thoughts?

Based on what you have written so far, your complaint a verbal accusation without any evidence. Just about the weakest type of complaint going and the easiest for a firm to reject. Everyone who buys insurance could make the same complaint years down the road if they didnt make a claim. So, its unrealistic for them to consider your complaint valid unless you have evidence to back it up.
So, you would expect your complaint to be rejected unless there is another failing.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
