read the terms and conditions of the policy - this should indicate what should have happened.

It might merely be a clerical error - were the goods you bought the sort you could have got straight away or are they special order/customised products whose delivery time would have been hard to specify?

yes i checked it with customer services and they assure me it could not possible start untill the goods were delivered point blank !!

after checking with the insurance company i am told it was activated by the store on the 20/9/11. goods were delivere on the 8/11/11.

If you have it in writing that the policy will not start until you get the goods then I would say it is now time to put your complaint in writing to the store.

I would ask them to explain how your policy to cover your goods for 5 years can take effect before you had not taken possession of the goods, thus effectively providing you with a period of coverage less than the stated (and agreed) 5 year period?
Include a copy of your supporting documentation and ask them how they propose to resolve the situation.
