Swith to mains gas

50m....50 metres? Is that it? Pay for the pipe and installation that will hardly cost anything. 50 metres of plastic pipe moled through the ground from the mains to your house... I'm suprised you haven't done this earlier. What has the quote come back as? You don't have to have National Grid do it for you. You can get a much cheaper quote from another company. Thanks for all the replies, its very helpful.
14westfield - I had a look at that post code search, it seems I'm not in a deprived area. I didn't think I was, but it was worth a try!
I've sent back the letter stating my interest in principle, so we'll see what happens.
My house was built in 1990 so the boiler would be 22 years old if its as old as the house. I assume, the older the boiler, the less energy efficient it gets.
I'm in a rural area in Snowdonia and the nearest gas connection is only at the bottom of the road less than 50m away.
edit: 20 metres is included in the standard fixed price. Another 30 metres will not cost much.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Its about 50 metres. When I moved in September I don't think it was an option, but since then, I think one of the new houses at the bottom of the lane must have paid to get the gas main brought as far as there just before Christmas.
Now the houses at the other end of the lane have decided to club together and get a price for connecting everyone up, right to the top of the hill.
Don't think they have an estimate yet, they just want to know who's interested for now. I'll report back when I have a price.Tesco CC £0/£2,626.78 - JJB CC £0/£4,690.74Total Debt Excl Mortgage £0/£7,317.52 - 0% repaidMortgage £74,012.61/ £75,000.00Emergency Fund £335.06/£3,000Make £10/day Feb £70/£290Paydays till debt free date 0/200 -
There may need to be some network analysis done to see if the dead end piece of network can supply further properties. Have you had any quotes? The network in all probability will belong to Wales and west Utilities.http://www.wwutilities.co.uk/connections_overview.aspx?GroupKeyPos=03,01Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

To give you an idea, the price was just over £3,000 for a 64m connection, which was also within Wales and West area, so yours should be less than that. Took a week for them to do it.0

to best of my knowledge it is just jet [or jets] to change from one gas to another , not a major job and ask price from 1 or 2 people ,have done it myself in outer hebrides [engineer],manufacturer should be able to supply item ,even if old model and help reduce cost.0
