Being Harassed whilst shopping

I sometimes give them the money and tell them to keep the mag, as I honesly wouldnt read it. Means they can sell it twice as well
I never stop for anyone else on the high street or shopping centre though.0 -
I remember reading a while back that a lot of charities were pulling their 'chugging' activities because they were seen to be creating negative public opinion about the organisations involved.
Times were you at least knew the people after your time or money actually cared about the organisation or, heaven forbid, they were actually volunteers.
I know volunteers don't come as 'free' as they sound - it takes time and cash to maintain such resources, however I do find it sad, if not a bit odd, that many organisations who need to stir a bit of fire in people to get help have become a bit clinical about getting it...

There are some really persistent chuggers in my town, they'll follow you down the street saying...'it's for charity'...I was advised to say (possibly by someone on here) that I don't give to charities that harass people on the street. They soon leave me alone then!

We all have seen the bods in the highstreet wearing different charity tabbards each week... well I was amazed when I saw that self same job advertised in the paper at an hourly rate of £8.50 !!! Makes you wonder how much actually gets to the charity! You are better off going to a charity shop - they have the money and you have something useful!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0

I can't remember where or when, but I read somewhere that by using chuggers, the charities only get a 'profit' when you keep your direct debit going for over a year - the first year in effect pays for the chuggers, and if you cancel within the 1st yr, then they end up losing out...
it disgusts me, so I offer them no acknowledgement whotsoever0 -
I got this tip from a behavioural therapist (!). Simply put you hand up and say "not now thanks". No eye contact. And walk on."When you want something said, ask a man.
When you want something DONE, ask a woman" - Margaret Thatcher0 -

Often consider doing this myself but never sure whether it would come across as patronising. Sometimes I find myself taking circuitous routes to avoid my local seller purely because I don't want to take the magazine home to add to my out of control clutter (no time to read it). He's very nice and always thanks me even when I say 'not today, thanks' but I still manage to feel guilty (even though I already give to Shelter through my payroll). I found myself driving to work behind him the other day and noticed that his car's better than mine, maybe I'm in the wrong job...
Incidentally, our mags are still £1.If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...0 -
