More Than...

...or should that be Less Than helpful.

My car was stolen 3 weeks ago in the middle of the night; the burglars broke into the house and stole the car keys while I was asleep upstairs which was even more traumatic than the car having been stole.

More Than told me I couldn't have a hire car (even though I'd added this to my insurance) as the car was stolen and not in an accident.

Now three weeks later they have still not assigned anyone in the total loss unit to my claim as they say they have a backlog. Surely all the have to do is open the relevant page in Glass's and give me an offer - which I won't be able to accept straight away as my Gap insurance company want to see it first.

So I'm now out of pocket for everything in the car, which has mounted up to over £250; had to have locks changed on the house (but had to do that for my own piece of mind as well as security) and trying to find money for another car. AND having to make daily calls to an 0845 number...can't see myself renewing with More Than!

    Hiya

I know its a traumatic time for you and I sympathise with you entirely.

However, insurance policies usually only give a courtesy car while your car is being repaired at an authorised repairers. This is not the case in theft claims or accidents where the car is a write of so thats why a courtesy car has not been given. Check the policy for the exact terms and conditions. People thisnk they aitomatically entitled to a courtesy car regardless, this is rarely the case.

You can get your locks changed on the house on your house insurance so should not be out of pocket for this (except the excess)

Dont make daily calls to an 0845 number, check the saynoto0870 for a toll free or geographooc telephone number to ring them on.

Most insurers delay settlement on stolen vehicles for 6 weeks in case the vehicle turns up.

Why 6 weeks when the police mark it as officially stolen after 29 days? So for 6 weeks they sit on £20,000 - nice interest earner!

I thought it was six weeks, might be wrong. Give them a call to check.
