I had a buyer for an item in the middle of December who was registered on the German eBay site.
I posted the item by Airmail the same day, but the buyer says it's not been received. Nothing too unusual about that - this is my first non-delivery in over a year, so my luck had to run out eventually.
The problem is that when I go to the case that the buyer has opened against me and click "Take Action" it immediately takes me to the login page for the German site. As I don't have an account there, I don't speak German and there doesn't appear to be an "in English" button, how do I update the case to state that I've sent proof of posting and offered to send the buyer a replacement item?

You can login using your UK Account details, and use google translate to translate the pages to English, its not 100% but good enough to understand and add the details you need (If you install Google Toolbar it will give you the option to auto translate it)Over 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0

Thanks for that - didn't realise that login details work on any other eBay language site!
Don't really want the Google toolbar, so I'll just have to do a translation of each line individually...0

Personally I would issue a refund rather than just replace. If the German claim is anything like the UK claim then you are short on time to get the replacement to arrive- and so would lose anyway and have a forced refund made. I can also see no point at all in mentioning proof of postage- it is completely immaterial.
Best to refund in full and get the case closed immediately before it affects your seller dashboard too much.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I only do that to give the buyer some degree of assurance that I really did post it when I said I did. I agree that as far as eBay are concerned, it's irrelevant.
Perhaps I should just have refunded, but I've made the offer to replace now, so I'll give a couple of days for them to reply before refunding.0

I wouldn't worry too much about a buyer thinking you are a crooked seller. Reading these forums gives us rather a distorted view of buyers and sellers and I think the majority are not quick to assume they are being scammed.
I's also be cautious about waiting too long for the offered replacement- even if they accept they would be foolish to close the case- and the clock is already ticking on that. So you could well ship the replacement and still have the case closed against you and the buyer refunded in a few days. You need the case closed, having it closed against you will put a strike on your seller dashboard.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
