Thats because you already have a gmail account whether as all gmail is googlemail.com for the UK anyone who has gmail.com can send out gmail.com invites but new signers can only get googlemail.com as this is now the standard for UK users.0 -
All @googlemail.com addresses work as @gmail.com by the way, so if you just want to give out the latter, you can.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

Thats because all UK addresses are now Googlemail but Gmail will still come through as they changed the name because of trademark.

Yes I know. I was beta testing Gmail from near the start.
I am taking about Google giving the user a @gmail.com not a @googlemail.com that someone can send an email off to the user@gmail.com when they have a @googlemail.com email address if you know what am trying to say.0 -

Well, I assume it does some form of geo-IPing to work it out, and it's not unknown for it to be wrong.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

Im going to bed
If you give a user googlemail.com they can use pop.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com and on setup use xxxxxxx@gmail.com whether or not they have gmail or googlemail, Using Gmail form the start doesnt mean you may have beta tested it, I have just wrote a paper on Gmail and AVG because of some email scanning issues, I was a Beta tester but now use Yahoo mail, feel free to have a look at the thread I made for my own reference.
Thread here.
Now I really must get to bed  :beer:0
