Received large British Gas bill that was never chased - what are my rights?

Help, I caledl Npower on the 5th of dec 2011 and gave them my meter readings the gas was 08181671. Today i called them back and gave them todays as 08377368 at about 4pm. I took these readings myself. Basically the meter implies i have used 195697 m3 within a month!! Is this even possible? SHE SAID MY BILL IS £122.30

i switched my boiler off the whole day and put it on at 9pm today and I checked again about 11 pm the reading was 08378186. ie 548m3 in 2 hours!!

Am i right to say thenmeter is smoking cheap drugs??

No.

You should have been advised that with a metric meter the last 3 (red) digits are not recorded.

I had a similar issue with large bills when EDF took forever to get my accounts back from Virgin power after they were "scam transferred". I opted to move onto pre-payment meter and paid it back over a ridiculously long period (far longer than was on offer with reinstating the DD)
