advice on kwik fit quote

Part of the exhaust is rusted in my Peugeot 206 1.6 w reg. It is the ends of each part connecting to the catalytic converter.
Kwik fit have quoted me £200 to fix this...is this reasonable or are they ripping me off. Do I actually need a new cat if it's just the flanges that are rusted?

I'd get another quote from somewhere else if you're in doubt about the work that's needed and the price of the quote.

If it is the CAT it will be expensive.

Why not try a couple of other garages to get a quote and compare. Ensure you are looking at similar products, for replacement, as there are different levels of parts quality.

Firstly you need other local quotes to compare what jo bloggs in southend pays will be different to john smith in aberdeen. Also try and get recommendations on good garages, save yourself some hassle and leave kwik fit for when you have a puncture then head down there to get it repaired and no doubt walk out with a full set of tyres and brakes.

£200 seems expensive for just the cat on a 206. Are you sure they are quoting for just that cat and not including some other pipes?

The cat can be had for around £70.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-206-1-6-1998-00-Exhaust-Catalytic-Converter-Cat-Petrol-/200687771877?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2eb9ec60e5

So essentially they are charging £130 to fit (add to that the trade discount they will get on the part).

I would seek quotes from other places, I would expect to pay no more than £150 max for just changing the cat.
The other option is to buy the part yourself from a local motor factor and take it to a local garage who should charge an hours labour at £30-£50 to fit it for you.
