Unexpectedly high claim-urgent response/advice required
Hi,
I bought a new car this week and rang my other car insurer to know about the only accident I had in february last year. The car was in 2nd gear but I slowed it down enough to gain sudden speed & hit the front left side of another car. This caused some dent there but thought of noth major. I in due manner passed my insurance details and came to know we r having the same insurer(admiral).
I answered the query over phone to admiral claim department and gave the same message.I didnt hear from them about this since.
Now when I want to be sure about the claim history so that I can put accurate info while comparing quotes in the comparison sites(confused, money supermarket etc.), I was hugely surprised to know that they had to write off the car at £3000..!! This doesnt sound reasonable to me..
Putting THIS VALUE as claim cost is giving me much higher quotes than expected..
Is there anything I can do at this point(given the accident took place in february last year and was settled-although admiral didnt notify me about the amount that has been claimed against my insurance)?
Urgent opinions/suggestions are very much welcomed..as i need to insure this new car ASAP...

Thats what insurance is for they paid it not you. What car did you hit and what panels were damaged?
Some paints are hard to match and some body panels may not be available. If teh other person had a hire car then
that would push up the costs considerably.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Plus if it was the front you could have damaged the suspension, subframe and even the engine.0

Unfortunately car repairs are not cheap and if they exceed the value of the car then it will be written off and paid out. If you've bought a new car and not got it quoted first then you're in a sticky situation. You could always sorn it or sell it on again.. (sorry that doesn't really help)0

£3000 does not seem excessive. Car repairs to a good standard are expensive, and don't forget its not just the cost of the repair that can be claimed, theres the 3rd parties hire car costs whilst the car is being repaired, possible loss of earnings, possible injury payments etc.0

If the repairs equal more than 2/3 of the market value of the car, it'll typically be written off..... So if a car worth £3000, needs £2000 of repairs, it's a borderline write off.
Repairers for insurance companies typically quote triple or quadruple the actual cost of repair, so a £500 repair will be charged at £1500-£2000). It's all part of the big car insurance scam! (Wasn't their a documentary about this recently??)

^^ RSA (Royal Sun Alliance) insurance, but I have to be fair and say that they're pretty much all at it. Once one starts that !!!!!!, the others have to follow in order to survive.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
