I can't think of the word! :rotfl:
Or if it even needs one! :think:0 -
Yeah...I'm not sure it does need one. I think there is a risk of overwhelming newcomers (cos I've been around soooo long myself lol) with lots of words when I'm sure being judged is right up there at the top of the 'things to worry about' list.Do or do not. There is no try. (Yoda!)

Also, how about links to other useful boards on MSE?
I was a bit scared to venture out of DFW at first but I have got some good ideas from the OS board, some freebies etc
This is going to be long! Could it be formatted into an email as well, then whenever someone registers for Martin's email this could go out to them too?
It's going to be a great guide and will help many people.Saving for an early retirement!0 -
Welcome to MoneySavingExpert.com and the Debt Free Wannabe board.
This is your complete guide to start your journey to a better, debt free life.
First things first, well done for confronting your debt. This is known on here as your "light bulb moment". This is the biggest, and hardest, step you will probably take so if you can do this you CAN become debt free.
You may be feeling a lot of mixed emotions right now. Fear, anger, relief, embarrassment, happiness. These are all common place. You are not alone. Everyone on this board is here for the same reason. Because we’re in debt. We have all got here through one way or another. But what is important is everyone is in the same boat and you will not be judged or ridiculed.
The other members on here are so genuine and helpful it is unbelievable. I don't think there is much between us that we can't help with, debt wise or otherwise.
OK lets get down to the nitty gritty so to speak.
For other DFW (Debt Free Wannabe) users to be able to offer you the best and most appropriate advice we need you to provide us with as much information as possible. You don’t have to include your life story (although the nosier ones won’t mind if you do ) but we do need to know every penny you have coming in, and every penny going out. The more accurate and detailed you are the better the advice will be. We call this a SOA (statement of affairs). You will need to include all wages, benefits etc coming in, and all your monthly spending. Also at the end include a separate list of all your debts. Include all your balances, APR’s, credit limits, minimum payments, terms of loans. Anything you don’t know phone your creditors up and get the information.0 -

Put LBM in brackets after it, as that's a term we seem to use a lot...southernscouser wrote:You may be feeling a lot of mixed emotions right now. Fear, anger, relief, embarrassment, happiness. Hmm, this seems very formal - especially for you. When I mentioned about the .sig I didn't mean chop it out completely, but something like...
"You won’t be judged (certainly not by me - I was over £34,000 in debt at my LBM) so don’t be ashamed of your problems. Although it pains me to say it, there are a lot of useful and talented people on this board (as well as me)."

I think the word "other" is a remanent of something you chopped out before.southernscouser wrote:You will need to include all wages, benefits etc coming in, and all your monthly spending. Also somewhere in here put divide annual spending by 12, and multiply 4-weekly spending/wages by 1.08 to get a monthly equivalent."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

You can see the reworking of the new thread here. It's still open to all suggestions.
OK so next up is the SOA. Perhaps rather than me listing all the outgoings people might have it might be better to link to the budget planner? What do people think?0 -
