I also think the title should include SOA and statement of affairs.

I think you should have that introduction as the first post.

Then have a second post with the template in it.

and have a third post with the links for letters.

Agree with the comments made so far. The only other thing I was wondering was whether it could be the first 'sticky' as it is quite far down the list at present, so might be hard to find for newbies.

To make it the first sticky it has to be alphabetically in front of the others, we can sort that out when it is posted.;)

SS you can have a series of posts dealing with each bit if everyone thinks that would be better?

Have a look at the rules threads for an idea of what I mean..

Oh OK. So rather than one long one, we can break it up into different topics and posts! That might be an idea!

I don't think it does to be honest. I think stickies have the same collation criteria as the rest of the threads. So if - like me - you have them sorted into "last post" order, the stickies go first sorted like that, then the "normal" threads go on sorted like that.

    Maybe emphasise it ***LIKE THIS***...

You won’t be judged (certainly not by me, look at my signature ) so don’t be ashamed to admit everything. Although it pains me to say it there are a lot of top people on this board.

Will *real* newbies know what a signature is, and where to find it?

I'd also use some other phrase than "top people" (is that a regional saying?). It makes us sound like we're a hierarchy with too many chiefs and not enough indians... ;)

Other than that - looking good...

Point taken about the sig! :)

As for top people, just trying to make it sound friendly rather than preachy sort of thing. So people feel comfortable and at ease! :undecided
  • Welcome to MoneySavingExpert.com and the Debt Free Wannabe board.

This is your complete guide to start your journey to a better, debt free life.

First things first, well done for confronting your debt. This is know on here as your "light bulb moment". This is the biggest and hardest step you will probably take so if you can do this you CAN become debt free.

You may be feeling a lot of mixed emotions right now. Fear, anger, relief, embarrassment, happiness. These are all common place. You are not alone. Everyone on this board is here for the same reason. Because we’re in debt. We have all got here through one way or another. But what is important is everyone is in the same boat and you will not be judged or ???????

The other members on here are so genuine and helpful it is unbelievable. I don't think there is much between us that we can't help with, debt wise or otherwise.

OK lets get down to the nitty gritty so to speak.

For other DFW (Debt Free Wannabe) users to be able to offer you the best and most appropriate advice we need you to provide us with as much information as possible. You don’t have to include your life story (although the nosier ones won’t mind if you do ) but we do need to know every penny you have coming in, and every penny going out. The more accurate and detailed you are the better the advice will be. We call this a SOA (statement of affairs). You will need to include all wages, benefits etc coming in, and all your monthly spending. Also at the end include a separate list of all your debts. Include all your balances, APR’s, credit limits, minimum payments, terms of loans. Anything you don’t know phone the said companies up and get the information.
