And I like to meddle. I suppose I deleted it because I felt I ought to be able to have it not cluttering up my PC. In my world, things that don't have a right to exist and should be eliminated. But that's just me.
I believe I knew it was corrupted because when I tried to open it, I think I got a message saying it was corrupt.

A router could fail anytime, whether it's due to you fidling with it or not ... if it's critical then you need to buy another router, so you have one just in case. - or have an alternate way of connecting to the net, i.e. via mobile.0 -
Good point Sooler, it's just occurred to me that I have another router downstairs that I could use if my normal one failed. Maybe with a backup image of my harddrive, this would be all I need. Thanks for all of your help guys.0

If it was a data file - Word Doc, Excel Spreadsheet, then I can't imagine why deleting it would have prevented your PC from booting up.
If it was a critical system file, I can't imagine why you would be trying to 'open' it.....0 -
Techguys will not be able to help you if your router hardware fails anyway-complete waste of money. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Look at it this way invest the next 24 months of £6.99 in an external HD, PAYG USB internet dongle, decent sized USB pen drive and a decent back up tool. All that should fit in £167.76 quite easily.
That way you can image your drive to the external with the backup tools, use the pen drive for small files as a backup to use the wife's laptop. Finally in the event of a powercut and landline\router problem you can use the USB dongle on a PAYG basis to submit any urgent files at 3AM using your wifes laptop that will be running on battery
Main router wise take a note of the details your ISP uses in the router and if it goes wrong, reset the router and re-enter the details required.

Another vote for image backups - Buy something like Acronis True Image, learn how to use it and make regular backups to a second hard drive. The very first time you trash your computer so it won't boot and then load the backup image and 10 minutes later have a perfectly working computer complete with all files and programmes on it will make you want to punch yourself for not doing it 2 years ago.
Download the fully working free trial from Acronis, (Acronis true image home 2012) use it, try it out and carry on learning how to break and fix your computer!
Seriously, imaging software is so useful you will be furious at yourself for wasting so much time and money in the past reloading and repairing Windows.
Normally it's like this:
Trash computer, reload windows, reload 155 critical updates, reload all software, reload all software updates, reload flash, firefox, cutepdf, java, shockwave and 5 hours later you might have a working computer again.
with imaging software it's like this:
Trash computer, boot up and load the last image you made, it takes 10 minutes leaving you 4 hours 50 minutes to spend in the pub.

Or burn a copy of a Linux distro and use the 'live' cd to connect to the internet when you've trashed your Windows. Google and Youtube as much as you like.Move along, nothing to see.0
