college help

Not sure if this is the right place but here goes.

I became unemployed in August, my daughter started college in September. She applied for the new bursary, the person that deals with it said she's intitled to nothing because I'm getting JSA and the JSA is to be used to help her college costs???? Now they are saying that we don't live 3 mile away, according to more than one map site we are 3 mile away, the college says according to the site they use we are 2.9 mile away, strangley enough they wont tell us what site they used. My daughters tutor helped her map out the route and print it off, she then took the map to the fincial dept but the map has been like a red rag to a bull for some reason!!!!

This isnt meant to sound racist althought it'll probably come over that way, but immigrants get the bursary regardless of where they live? Can the college actually do this?

I've looked on the goverment website and all it says is...........
Other students facing genuine financial difficulties may be awarded a bursary at the discretion of their school, college or training provider.
Unlike the EMA, schools, colleges and training providers will be responsible for awarding bursaries to students. With the exception of the £1,200 bursaries for students most in need, they decide on the amount. They will also decide when bursaries are paid, and will set conditions that students should meet to receive a bursary, for example, linked to behaviour or attendance

I don't suppose theres anything I can do, it just doesnt seem fair or right.

I'll ignore your comment about immigrants.

I think that your daughter may have misunderstood what the person at college has said. As you're on JSA you'll still be getting full child benefit and child tax credits for your daughter which is intended to cover her keep and educational expenses, not your JSA.
