    hi,

I think having red in one room and purple in the next one, will be way too clashing and garish. Remember you dont have to follow trends which are in the diy shops, perhaps subtle classic colours blending together, with the bright colours added in the cushions or lampshades.
i read mags such as Good Housekeeping, House Beautiful. If you search for magazines online you will find their websites which will show you room setting and colours.

the basic tool for any color matching or contrast is understanding the color wheel.

Probably best to stick to one colour throughout if the room is open. Red and purple are clashers so they won't compliment each other either, so you can't really pull a bit of red into one side or purple into the other, especially not when you've got silver and black in the mix as well. There's too many colours in a relatively small for it to look contrived at all, it will just look odd.

I'm all for loud colours and personality but that's too much for what is essentially one room with two zones. Maybe do the red in a different room altogether if you want it in the house.

I used the dulux website which has an application where you can colour in a blank room online to see it. I was still completley baffled as to which colour to use so I also emailed their colour consultant and she emailed back with several ideas and suggested colours. You dont have to use Dulux paints or wallpaper to match her ideas as there are so many different brands out there.

I went with one suggested scheme in my living room and it looks amazing!

I agree with Doozer re the colours. colours in a room also depend on the type of light it gets, my bedroom for xample has muted colours, but the back facing room which gets all the sun, can take pure white on the walls with a vibrant coloured paper on another . always try samples.

Gooogle 60 minute makeover prog, it can be a bit OTT but they seem to match the rooms well.

Are you young n trendy BTW, do you like the NEXT style which my neices and nephews have gone for in their first homes?
