How to report my letting agent?

Hi,
My letting agent has breached section 1 of the landlord and tenant act 1985 as well as being completely useless and ignorant throughout our time with them. They're based in Manchester but our property is in Salford. Who should I report them to?
Thanks in advance.

Okay, for those of us who might not be that up with the Landlord and Tennant Act 1985 - can you explain a bit more!!
In what way has he or she broken it and how have they been ignorant and useless?0 -
It's not worth your breath complaining about them, just find some others.
We have just sacked our LA for being a bunch of morons breaching the management agreement with us. Despite breaching a number of laws it's just not worth the energy it takes to do something about it.
I am just glad to be shot of them!Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Section 1 deals with the disclosure of the landlord's address.
Being useless and ignorant towards tenants seems to be standard operating procedure for about 50% of letting agents. There's nothing you can do about that except move out. Remember agents work for the landlord, not for the tenant.0 -
Perhaps the OP is the landlord?0

Thanks for the replies, my complaint was forwarded to the Salford City Council so hopefully they'll be able to assist me.
I am the tenant, I'd like to contact the landlord in order to make sure he or she knows what's going on with the property. Bap is right, you can view the relevant section here if you like (link edited, I can't post it correctly as I'm a new user) legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1985/70
We've had water leak in from upstairs, causing a mains fitted smoke alarm to break and it hasn't been repaired in over two months, there's possibly structural damage as it's also leaking outside the external wall. They took over a month of pestering to get our washing machine fixed last year as well.
I'll be finding somewhere else to live mid-March, but I'd really like to see some justice - a breach of section 1 of the act is supposed to be a criminal offence and carries a fine of up to £2,500. I'll be writing negative reviews everywhere I can as well.

You must be feeling generous today0 -
Are you sure it's the lettings agency that are incompetent and not just a case of Landlord not caring and them having to pickup the pieces he causes?0
