Moving my bike :(

Hi everyone, I don't know if there are any other biker people reading this, but I don't know what to do, so I'd thought I'd ask. I'm a novice rider and have a small motorbike - I have to park on the road in my quiet village as we moved somewhere with no drive (not a good idea I know, but we had to move quickly and had little choice). I have been parking my bike just outside and people keep moving it out of the parking bay or swinging it round by 90 degrees so it's sticking into the road. It's really annoying as they are starting to cause damage to the wheels by moving it and they also shift it into an area which I'm not allowed to park in or swing it out so it's sticking into the road. It's already chained up and there are no parking restrictions so I'm allowed to leave it there and I have no idea who's doing it. :( Is there anything I can do? thanks, Celyn x

if there is a lamppost then chain both wheels to it

use a cctv/camera to video tape your bike

fit an alarm to the bike

    ask neighbours
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

Do you have a small piece of concrete anywhere on your property to attach a ground anchor or two to?
Also did you inform your ins co of the change in where you park your bike? I'd hate for you to get it bumped whilst in the road and ins won't pay out as you didn't inform them of new parking place. I only mention this as hubby HAS to park his bike in a brick built garage.

If you set up a camera to record possible tampering/damaging of a vehicle with a view to using the film as evidence you must put up a sign to make criminals aware you are recording them. Daft I know but thats the law.

Hi Shelly, thanks for this, I let my insurance company know just before I moved and they were fine (although my excess is higher now). They charged a bit extra for moving the policy, but I can leave it out as long as it is has a chain on it (and not necessary to chain to something either). I don't like leaving it outside, but we have a first floor flat, so there is no yard or drive.

I know, that is what I found really upsetting - I pay my road tax and insurance like everyone else, and I parked so there is space behind to fit another motor in. They seem to be just dragging it too, which is marking the tyres - there is a chain through both wheels and these were wrapped around the axles this morning. I think they have tried to pivot it on the centre stand too. :(

I'd try and find a lamp post to attach the bike to, if your neighbours are able to simply turn it round, move it. Any passing criminal will be able to pick it up and throw in the back of the van.

If you must park in the road, you could cover it with a bike cover and place under it a cheap alarm from argos, they are in the bike section, if the alarm is moved it triggers, think they are under £30. Or attach to the chain/cover an exploding tripwire (found through google), if they touch the bike the tripwire is activated and BOOM... the second one may not be legal :P

If you have underseat storage and park close to home, place a wireless baby monitor under the seat and you will be able to hear when anyone touchs your bike.

You're welcome. I wouldn't have wanted for you to have overlooked it which is easy to do with the hassle of moving.

Do you have a front garden, even a tiny one? When I had a motor bike what I did was get a few of the sturdier paving slabs and bed them into the grass in a corner of the garden. Doing it this way you can fiddle to your heart's content getting them level and situated right. And your bike would be much safer if you can get it off the road.
