gas electric advice again please

Hi all posted regarding my gas and electric prices last month and know the house is not very energy efficient. i am with southern electric on prepayment meter.

The below is just for my gas.

24/11/11 £15.00
09/12/11 £15.00
16/12/11 £15.00
23/11/11 £15.00
04/11/12 £8.00 but down to £4.56 as went into emergency credit yesterday

I have applied for loft and cavity wall insulation with Tesco's and had an email before Xmas to say due to overwhelming response some applicants details have been passed straight onto contractor and should be in contact soon.

I have also spoken to the landlord about getting the bedroom window and bathroom window double glazed as they are single at the moment and the bathroom one is broken and was letting in a lot of cold i have duck taped it up at the moment and there is a difference.

I have been keeping a note of my meter readings since 15th DEC and it was 09997- ***
and as of today it was 10095-*** so if i have figured it correctly ~(newbie) then i have used 98 units in less than a month.

I am in a 3 bed semi detached house with 9 radiators and have my heating on a timer set to 18 degrees it comes on for 20 mins in the morning 20 mins in the afternoon before the kids get in fro school and 2 hrs in the evening.

My washing machine, dishwasher and shower are all cold water fed so my gas is only used for hot water, my gas hob and heating.

I spoke to my mum today who is also in a 3 bed semi and she is also with southern electric but pay monthly now she has said since 9th DEC she has used 41 units.
She has her heating on for an hour in the morning and 5-6 hrs in the evening and her dishwasher/shower and washing machine is either cold and hot water fed or hot water fed, she has gas hob and gas fire in the living room also she has 7 radiators

So she has 6 extra days usage than me and has more on than me for longer.

My next door neighbor has hers on longer than mine and her house is like mine lacking insulation and she only puts on £40 pm as dose her sister in similar property

I phone s/e before speaking to my mum and they went through some things and said my usage is fine. she confused me a little when i asked how much i pay per unit she said.

8.589 for first 600 units per day then
4.001 for the rest but
I pay 4.001 all day then at 2am in the morning the meter resets and recalculates how much i have used at 8.589 and minuses it off my credit ???

After speaking to several people who all said that seems to much advised me to phone up and ask them to come and check my meeter, so i contacted s/e back and explained everything and asked for my meter to be checked and was told no you can not have it checked you phoned up earlier we went through it is all correct, if your meter was faulty then you would either have a gas leak or be getting free gas.

I know this is a long post and appreciate anyone who has taken the time to read through it and or offer me any advice, as i said newbie to it all and do not know how many units i should really be using.

£2 a day for gas heating and hot water including the standing charges is good. Nothing to worry about. Reduce your consumption further if you can but it looks good anyway. You are paying too much as you are on a prepayment meter and 8.589 pence per kWh is quite high.

Can you be clearer on your figs.
Are you talking about gas meter readings or electric?
Are the units for kWh (electric ) or cubic metres or cubic ft (gas)?

That said the ££ amounts do not look high for a PP meter.
