December 2012 Brides and Grooms

I bought my dress over the weekend - totally with you LaurenC re the difficulties having wider hips and being small on top - they did my measurements and I showed as a size 2 (clearly mental, I've been wearing a size 10 since I was about 15) on top and an 8 on the hips (!) Lovely!
Mine is vintage style as well and sounds very similar to yours as you described - I always thought I would want a 50s style dress with a nipped in waist and full skirt but when trying them on I looked atrocious.
I've asked my very crafty cousin to make the bridesmaid's gifts, she makes glass beads which she then turns into earrings etc. I'm offering to spend £100 each on a dress/accessories/shoes, but if they want a more expensive dress they will have to pay the extra. We're paying for the most of the wedding ourselves so we haven't got much free cash spare for things like that unfortunately - I think if my parents were paying for the whole thing (which they did offer to) I would be able to afford to be more generous with my poor BMs!0 -
Hi all. We got engaged on 18th January and are also getting married on 31st December 2012 in Scotland. There will only be the two of us and we are going for a 3 day Hogmanay celebration up there and getting wed at the same time.0

Hi redlady_1, congratulations on your engagement and that sounds stunning0

Well the date is now confirmed as 21st December, the Venue is sorted (a rural National Trust property) and the ceilidh is booked. I have a fairly good idea of the kind of dress I want, and as my Mum will make it, have sent her some links so she knows what she is needed to do. Not going to think about it until later in the year now. My sister is my bridesmaid, she lives abroad though and is currently pregnant, due in August. So her dress will be made in the 6 days between her arriving back in Scotland, and the wedding!! No point doing it any sooner anyway as she will be changing shape so much, post baby!
Still not sure what to do about flowers. The only disappointing thing about our venue is they don't allow candles, which is a shame as that was going to be a key part of our table theme. Might have to look into the LED candles. Our food will be done by an outside caterer, I am quite keen to try to source the food myself (we know various people that have fishing and shooting licences etc) so would like to make it as local as possible. So got to give that a bit more thought.
Better get on ebay and get scouring for table decorations etc!0% card was £1126.91 / Now £1502.37

Hi, getting married on 13th December 2012. Was going to be 12.12.12 but changed hotels and they couldn't facilitate this date. Needed to get married mid-week due to being cheaper. Other half is slightly weary that guests won't come as its mid-week and need to take day off but I'm of the opinion that if they don't want to come, they don't have to.0

we've decided on 12.12.12 but now too embarrased to tell people in case they think its tacky!....re: mid week thing, I am with you, those who want to come will do. They will have more than enough time to book annual leave!0

We are getting married on the 22/12/2012 - pretty much everything is booked or sorted and the bride is going to look at dresses next week.0

Hi everyone, how are the December wedding plans going? We have had a busy wedding day today! My mum was over and came up with a great idea for a caterer, so we phoned today and she is free! (Free for the date, not doing it for free
) and even better, she also does flowers and cakes. She is someone I actually know from way back, and is super-artistic and Mum reckons will do a fantastic job, she's eaten at several functions where she has been the caterer and raved about it, so all good. The main thing we still have to arrange is our actually ceremony!
Also had some winter wedding theme ideas, including the colour of the bridesmaid dress and the flowers etc, so it's starting to come together. We've set up our website so are just about to send out a save the date email (figuring a wedding just before Christmas needs some warning) and started looking into wine and fizz etc.
Starting to get excited now actually

I'm here! Plans are going well I think. Dress design kind of sorted. Registrar booked. Readings and vows if not chosen then we have a few options. Photographer not sorted which might be an issue! I'm currently trying to work out the best way to source the crockery and glassware I need!0% card was £1126.91 / Now £1502.37
