Scottish Power vs Sainsbury's Energy

I'm in the process of switching from Powergen to Scottish Power. I went to Sainsbury's the other day & a Sainsbury's Energy salesman bloke said I'd save 7% if I switched to them instead of Scottish Power? But their gas & electricity is supplied by Scottish Power anyways. So how does that work?

Has anyone got any experience with Sainsbury's Energy? I'm tempted to go with them because you can earn Nectar points & you get 1,000 points when you switch.

Thanks in advance

Zoe :)

    hi zoe

sounds like this salesman was after his commission if u ask me...

unless of course scottish power are offering extra discounts if you sign up under the "sainsburys" package?

however, its worthwhile signing up with sainsb if u r going to get extra nectar points, even if its the same prices
their website says u hav to give your nectar card no. at time of registration to get the points

    ;)

Sign up under scottish powers capped rate, i don't think Sainsburys do a capped rate

Sainsbury's could under cut Scot power dirrect as they may run at a lower profit or admin cost.

EAGA's link up with scottish power runs at around 8% cheaper than scot power direct

    Pak-2,

I would be interested to know more about the EAGA-Scottish Power option that you mention. I have attempted to PM you about this, but the Postmaster states that your given e-mail address is not a valid one.

Can you tell us where this is available please, because I have looked for links on Internet and have not been able to find any. Also do you know the relativity in pricing between Sainsburys-Scottish Power and the EAGA prices which you quote. In other words does the EAGA linked approach give lower prices?

    Thanks for your help.
  • :)Hi
I switched from British Gas to Sainsbury Dual Fuel last month, and now i pay fix monthly amount for gas and electricity, i worked out at that time that sainsbury are relatively cheaper than scotish power. what i recon is that sainsburys might have bought gas and elec. from scotish power in bulk, means they have to pay scotish power per month or per year certain amount of money for gas and elec. now its up to sainsbury that how they make profit. i calculated that now a days i am paying lot less for elec. and gas to sainsbury that i used to pay to British Gas and Southern Elec. the only thing i am not sure is that are sainsbury going to charge me same in winter for gas as they are doing in summer. if they will charge me same in winter then they are cheaper than scotish power

I wouldn't touch Sainsburys energy with a barge pole and am looking to change my supply with them. We where with British Gas and then went to Sainsburys and signed to them after asking if we could still pay quarterly which we were told we could. After several phone calls and more than 2 weeks cooling off period, they said join Scotish Power on line to pay quarterly, we did only to be e-mailed back to say they couldn't do this. I am changing provider (wish i hadn't changed brom B Gas) probably to Powergen or NPower. Gonna check out the prices on the net.

:-X Sainsburys sell gas and electricitry on behalf of Scottish Power and it is the same product.

the only difference is that if you sign up via Sainsburys you cannot have the online tariff.

but the big question should be; "who buys gas and elec from a supermarket?"

how many of you do your shopping at british gas?

Who's daft enough to shop at Sainsbury's, considering their prices compared to others?

(says the one who works for them, ahem ;D )

    Pack-2,

Going back to your point about EAGA, I have contacted EAGA to attempt to find out about the scheme which you stated exists for Scottish Power/EAGA energy supply. They state that no such scheme exists. I include their final reply to me here:

    "Thank you for your reply

. We do not have anything to do with the supply of energy. Eaga administer
a goverment grant to do with insulation and heating. Hope this helps.

    Regards
    Tracey

Re: Scottish Power. I am in the process of trying to find out if the tariff my neighbour signed up to is correct. I recommended Stay Warm to her and she signed up with them only to be approached by Scottish one day whilst out shopping. They gave her a price of £7.50 a week for as much or as little gas and electricity that she wanted on her 2 bed house. I pinned her down and grilled her about the facts - she is absolutely adamant that that is the price/service with a guarantee that it will not increase for 3 years. She said her age was not an issue and they are aware that 2 adults live in the home. Seem's a heck of a deal to me! As we are paying £47 a month for the same service with Stay Warm I have e-mailed Scottish and am awaiting their answer. Will certainly post the outcome and find out if there are any 'hidden' clauses or age limits too.

    Chris
