Where to invest £250k?

Hello,

We currently have over £250k in spare savings after taking over £30k for a rainy day account and a small amount for home renovations. Where should we be investing our money?

We had a Lloyds TSB personal equity adviser come around but the fund returns seam dismal, 5 year returns relative 1%?

Thanks

Do you mean invest or do you mean save?

Saving is short term - less than 5 years. Investing is longer term - at least 5 years and preferably 10 years.

If you really mean invest, and with a sum of £250k, I would really advise seeing an IFA and not a tied FA from a bank. See https://www.unbiased.co.uk for an IFA in your area failing a recommendation from friends or family.

Well I would like to see a return on my money and preferable harness the earning potential, investments 5-10years or longer until retirement is not a problem as long as I could have access to the money in an emergency ect.

    Thank you for your advised.

Shouldn't be any problem with access as long as you make that clear to the IFA when asking for advice.

Where you invest will depend largely on what you want to achieve and how much risk you're willing to take with your capital.

As jem says, best bet is to avoid tied adviser wherever possible, as they usually offer a much more limited service than an IFA and often at a higher cost.

The term you meant was "Lloyds TSB salesman". ;)

No you mean "A dandy highway man in an Audi and a sharp suit"
