Me and my partner were driving back from shopping on sunday and passed one of those lovely mobile detection units, my partner then said to me that our tax will be due to run out this month (feb) just check it to make sure. So I checked it finding that it had ran out on the 31st of jan  completely thick of us I know!! My fault completely as its the first car ive had in my name and i filed the documents (including the sorn) away all safely, but decided not to read them fully :o
...Anyway we are taxed now (bought it 1st thing monday morning) my question is when should I expect a fine and how much? And is there any possible chance after driving past that bloody van that I wont get one?

Please no posts telling me I'm dumb- I am already aware of this.

Regards
Vicky

It would either be a speeding van, or if it was checking tax discs, you may be asked to back date it but since you have now taxed the vehicle I can't see there being a problem with it

I went past a fixed speed camera many months ago about 10mph over the limit. I saw the camera flash but I never got a ticket!
  • I am surprised you did not receive a fine from the DVLA when you did not renue your tax, they do it automatically now if you do not notify them that the vehicle will be off the road for some reason. Not sure how long they wait before sending it though, you may be ok now you have taxed it.

Only ran out a week ago, I reckon there systems will only kick in at the end of February.

However if the police stop you you could be charged with not displaying a tax disc.

You wil be ok, the computer which the ANPR system runs on and checks current MOT as well as whether the vehicle is insured, will not generate a no VEL until approx 14 days after the month end. The NO insurance or No MOT offence is generated within a matter of days of it running out.

The prosecution is authorised by the DVLA who check whether there is a current VEL in force before issuing a fine.
