Property liability

Can anyone help answer my question on whether a company has liability for theft or loss of property when they store your belongings in an unlocked room with free access to any tom !!!!!! and harry??
Tried to check out of Champneys forest mere spa only to find one of our bags missing. Laptop and trainers stolen. Their policy reads:
The Company will not be liable under any circumstances whatsoever for damage, injury or consequential loss however caused to our residents, their property and belongings unless it is solely due to negligence of the Company, its employees or agents. If you do bring items then it is essential they are covered by your own insurance for the period of your stay.
My argument is based on a negligent employee(s) leaving property in a clearly unsecured area, or indeed failing to put it there in the first place. Possibly also the fact that this area exists in such a poor state being negligence of the management?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!

Do they provide lockers etc that you can use?
I would say if they accepted the items to look after then they were negligent unless of course they made it quite plain that any items were left at your own risk.
I would put a complaint in writing to the company as your first port of call.
Have you file a report of theft with the police?
Are you covered under your contents insurance policy anyway?
P.S I am in no way qualified but that is what my response would be. Perhaps an expert on here could provide further help to you.
Best wishes
