Railcard problem - who to contact

Hi this the email I sent to the " help" address for the railcard and got no reply.
How else can I get this sorted? Thanks !

We bought a 2 together railcard a little while ago as we are resident in Birmingham. !( railcard number xxxxxxxxx) and tried to use it at purley oaks station to buy a London zones 1-6 travel card for a day out in London.

Unfortunately the ticket office was unmanned and the " railcard" option on the machine didn't have a 2 together choice. We were unable to purchase the tickets we required ( which should have cost £5.30 x 2) and were forced to use our oyster cards that will cap at a charge of £8 for the day.

We attempted to sort things out at the first manned ticket office we encountered at London bridge station but they had never seen or heard of the 2 together railcard and declined to sort things out, though very politely and thanked us for teaching them something new!

I therefore request that you refund the difference ie £6.40 that we should have saved using the card ASAP

Did you buy the travelcard at the same time as the rail tickets and meet the relevant terms? London travelcards are for tubes, buses, etc and also certain rail services rather than being a specific rail ticket but in specific circumstances they knock a bit off as an extra incentive.

Looking at the twotogether website - Tickets and travel times, under 'Save on these Ticket types':

Off-Peak Day Travelcard when bought as part of your ticket to London from outside London Zones 1-9 (subject to a minimum fare of £5.30)
Anytime Day Travelcard when bought as part of ticket to London from outside London Zones 1-9 (Subject to minimum fare of £15.00)

As Purley Oaks is inside the zones (zone 6), it may be why your railcard was not recognised.
  • As the Two Together Railcard is new concept, in fact tbh it's still a trail there's a good chance that quite a few rail staff haven't heard of it and therefore were unaware of what to do when questioned about it, nice to see that they were polite and professional and tried there best to help.

My advice write to the address below stating all the problems you incurred that day, enclosing any tickets or evidence of Oyster card usage to the address below, hopefully you'll get some travel vouchers in the post.

Thanks for that. Not quite sure he produce proof of oyster card use though?

Have now explored things further and really this is like many so called bargain rail fares- pretty un usable.

I have asked at both new street and my local station, and, if the station isn't manned then tough ( we have a real person about 1 shift a day at random times). It's not even recognised on the station ticket machine .

This is just like my other pet unobtainake bargain fare " friends and family travel with a season ticket holder for £1". Yes but only if you buy the ticket from a manned office. Not obtainable from the machines or on the train.

True, but not many of them regularly check this site for such posts. For specialist rail related questions you're better off asking at a dedicated Fares, Tickets & Routeing forum.

Unfortunately there are some tickets that are not discounted using the new "Two together" railcard; it appears that in-boundary Travelcards are among them. Also it is not possible to get discounts applied to Oyster PAYG cards with the Two Together Raicard, Family Railcard or Network Railcards.
