n power wrong rates when switching

Options
I started the ball rolling an saturday to move from bg to Npower for my electricity only.
letter arrived tuesday thanking me and that they would inform BG
wednesday another letter informing me of the rates that i woud be paying they looked gifferant to what i had used on the net and when i used these new rates my bill of £215 from bg would have been £209 with N power £6 saving or 3%........
I got straight on the phone and girl on the other end said the rates will be as those on the net, i said i would wait for written conformation before i sent back all my bank details.

the revised savings for me work out at 15% not as shown on two switching sites that both quoted 21%.

this is my first move for more than 6 years but i think i may start changing both gas and electic on a 6/12 month basis.

ps any probs with npower i still have time to change.

  • I pity you. I'm new to this forum, and I ended up here by googling "bad customer service npower" and looking for forums etc.

Npower were the dual fuel suppliers in my new house but I switched straight away to Atlantic because their unit prices are almost half npowers.

The whole switch has been a complete fiasco, firstly with npower billing me for the previous occupant's fuel and next they sent me a closing electric bill dated November with 400 more units electric than I'd even used by January. To be fair I think some of the blame lies with Atlantic for a wrong reading however in dealing with both companies, Atlantic have been on the whole helpful (apart from one girl who told me a complete bunch of misinformation) whereas I have had nothing but bad attitude and unhelpfulness from Npower.

I have phoned them umpteen times about the wrong bill and they say they will sort it then a few days later I get threatened with court action for not paying.

They have finally sorted out the wrong gas bill which now comes to £71 whereas their first attempt was £132 (this is for just 28 days worth of gas! My Atlantic gas direct debit is £33 a month. Unbelievable).

However no joy with the electric, although I have now resorted to logging every conversation I have with them in great detail, which was highly amusing when the guy I spoke to just now started off by saying he was unable to stop the threatening debt letters, until I told him I was logging down the convo, took his name and recorded the date and time and then he suddenly developed the ability to do it. "Fantastic" I said "so at 2.40pm on 8 Feb, Graham says he will put the account on hold to stop the debt collection letters as soon as he gets off the phone to me. Thanks so much for your help Graham, goodbye" LOL

Anyway if anyones' interested I'll keep you up to date with what happens next, I have grave reservations about whether they will keep to their word because this has been going on since November and I've spoken to a dozen people before this and nobody seems to have enough between their ears to sort it out.

Next I'm ringing Harvey's furniture store to chase up my dining table which I paid for in December and they still haven't delivered yet. Joy.

Doesn't ring true that one company would charge half that of another major supplier! Was this correct or was there another charge (perhaps no standing charge on the NPower one).
  • Hi
Have just been going through the process of switching my electricity from BGas to Npower. Received my welcome letter from Npower yesterday 8th Feb 2007 and the rates quoted for electricty were higher than that stated on the EnergyHelpline web site (that was were I initiated the switch). The rates quoted were as follows:

The price quoted on EnergyHelpline.com for Npower for 'Sign on line 6' was 18.197p for the 1st 182 Kwh and 8.295p thereafter. These prices are stated as being inclusive of VAT @ 5%.
When I received the initial 'Welcome' letter from Npower yesterday the price quoted was 18.67p for the first 182 units and 8.61p for the rest.
I telephoned Npower yesterday to explain this and they double checked and confirmed that the correct price is as quoted in their letter, i.e 18.67p for 1st 187 Kwh and the rest at 8.61p.
Have written to Energyhelpline today to explain the situation and will hopefully get an explanation.
I have also noticed that suppliers seduce you in to signing up with cheaper tariffs online and then when there is an increase they change you over to their standard tariff and there doesn't seem to be any way of getting the cheaper online tariff. I have switched so many times it's unreal, the administration costs for the suppliers must be huge! That seems how you have to play the game though!

    Hi.

To be honest I had had no dealings with Npower before this, I simply changed supplier to Atlantic due to a USwitch recommendation.

Subsequently I have now had one correct bill from Atlantic in which they are charging me 8.66p a unit plus a standing charge of approx £3 a month.

My disputed Npower bill has four different unit prices (I have no idea what they each correspond to) ranging from 9.37p to 21.33p per unit. There does not appear to be a standing charge. Their bill is very difficult to comprehend, they do not say what the unit charges apply to (day/night etc), I suppose that's intentional to conceal their grossly innacurate billing.

the rates you were quoted on the net and bigger rates by post is exatly the same rates as i was give now I am not sure about NPOWER they seem to be trying to pull a fast one on customers here.
Should this scam be reported to some regulator.

i have been with npower for the last 16 months or so, i have had same probs as you, all meter readings were wrong, npower said it was BG fault and BG saying it was my own fault for switching suppliers anyway. took weeks to sort and i ended up having to pay BG also because npower hadnt notified them of my date of switch.my hours of work have been cut now and im struggling to pay all my bills, i can use a card payment weekly or 2 weekly at a set rate but when i couldnt pay this for two weeks they stopped it and submitted the full amount for payment, i spoke to a woman two weeks ago to say that i can pay the full ballance last week in feb when wages go in, but to stop bailiffs coming in i had to borrow half the amount owing from my son and then the operator told me that that would be enough to stop anyone visiting my house and thus incurring a visit cost of £25.00, just 3 days later i got a letter from bailiffs to say they were going to visit and i would get a charge of £25.00 every time they visited until other half of bill (£62.00) was paid, npower say that this will keep happening until last week in feb when bill paid off, yet the operator had told me that if i was to borrow the money and pay half of it it wouldnt come to this, since switching to npower there has been 4 increases in their charges, just as soon as bill is cleared i am going to look elswhere for a cheaper option.
