Next Credit Account

This has invariably been done via the web and is down to a (deliberately) badly designed site, no doubt making it difficult to see what you're signing up for.
But to have this happen whilst actually speaking to someone is outrageous! Write and complain and report them to Trading Standards too.
I entered a competition on the Next website a few years ago and a couple of weeks later I had a next directory turn up at my door with a bill for £3.95 for the directory. I in no way signed up to anything, I thought I was just entering a competition. I phoned them up and said what had happened and they told me my account had been closed with no need to pay for anything. As I have had no other correspondence from them I assume my account has been closed, but I never shop in Next so I have no idea! I'm a little worried now!0 -
Thankfully no I don't owe them money it was paid off in full over 2 years ago. In the same vein I don't want to owe them money, I just want to spend my gift voucher!
That's crazy then! Do the T&Cs of the voucher state that if you've got an account, it can only be used against said account?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
I ordered a couple of items from Next recently and entered my debit card details on line to pay there and then. The goods arrived and were fine. A couple of days later I did the same, entering my Visa details. This time I got an email to say that I should 'check my account statement'. Looking at my bank balance, I realised that no money had been debited and sure enough, on looking at the Next site, suddenly I had an account with an available credit of £300 and monies owing! I was told that Next hadn't been able to debit my card as details didnt match up when they contacted my bank. Instead of stopping the order, or contacting me to let me know there had been a problem, they just racked it up on credit, then did the same again. Anyone know if this is legal? I made the point that if they weren't sure I'd given them the correct details, they sure as hell shouldn't have authorised further transactions. The guy on the phone as much as agreed when I said I felt Next are just falling over themselves to offer credit and dangle the carrot. Appalling.0

They are lying to you. They just did this to us - a FULL credit card payment was requested. And indeed they charged the card for the full amount.
They then credit searched and opened a £600 credit account - remember they took FULL payment for the order. The website clearly states a credit search will only be done if payment is not taken in full.
What's worse - one of the items was returned in store. As it says you can. Except it credit backs to the account you never asked for and they will NOT refund to the card which they took full payment for.
You then have to call an 0844 number to get your money put back on your card and then call again to close the account. When we called the guy on the phone says " we'll why don't your leave it open in case you need it".
It's absolutely underhand, totally deliberate and downright despicable behaviour. Next should be ashamed of themselves (and I don't buy the bad website line, its totally deliberate).0
