Moving from BT , problems ahead ?

Options
I called BT Customer services last week as my bill wasn't showing the discount for being in a 12 month renewing contract.

They told me that they do not do auto renewing any more and I was no longer in a contract with BT , I also have a print off of a live chat with BT confirming I'm not in any contract.

Could've sworn I had a letter in September saying if I didn't reply I'd be renewing for another 12 months.

I have now arranged for my line rental to move to the Post Office on 16/01.

I've now had a message from BT to say they have received an order to move the line to another provider and to call 08004346055 to check if there's any termination costs etc. I called and was told there's no charge as I'm not in any contract.

I think I might be in for some fun and games soon though as in my account it says

Your current Calling Plan is

Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan at no extra cost

  • Your contract started on 28/09/2011
  • Your contract finishes on 27/09/2012

Even though I've been told twice and have the print off from the live chat it still wouldn't suprise me if I got a bill from BT for the remainder of the line rental upto 27/09/2012.

I hope the Post Office service is better although it can hardly be any worse than BT.

They said that? Very misleading - you are, of course under an enduring contract with BT that only will end when you give notice of termination. It is a shame that they are unable to realise the difference. The enforced ending of rolling minimum terms (not contracts) was brought about by a demand from OFCOM, what you're seeing is BT playing catch-up!
  • I had a problem when I cancelled my contract with them, they could see i had cancelled but someone hadn't actioned it at their end so tried to charge over £100 cancellation fees, took me about a week of constant phonecalls and being passed around different depts but eventually they refunded the charges. I'd say dont take no for an answer and make it easier for them to cancel the charges than to listen to you! Good luck!!

Having looked into it a bit more I notice they cannot charge full monthly payments for the remaining term anymore either

IF they do try to bill me for the remainder it should only cost around £20, maybe I could contest it as a breach of contract as they are now charging me £3.15 for the eve & weekend plan when it should be free under the terms of the contract I was on ?
