Broken Ipad!!!

Dont know if anyone could give me any advise please.
i have an broken ipad, it wont turn on and had no life in it at all. the item is 18months old and had run out of gurentee, took the ipad back to apple and was informed that it would cost £230 to repair, i am disgusted by this, as i would of thought that an item that cost £500 to buy should last longer than 18months, could anyone please advise me if i have any rights to getting a replacement or repaired buy apple for nothing? many thanks

no, they said it was un-repairable & the would replace it with a reconditioned ipad for £2300

So what was the fault that makes it unrepairable? If you don't know then the fault hasn't been diagnosed, just the manufacturer's willingness to repair it.
