Hello,
I've been interested in this site for a while, and noticed that Turn2us is said to be a good site to get a benefit check.
A bit of backround. I'm 58 and the wife is 66. I am unemployed and sick whilst the wife is an OAP.
Our current income is my ESA £99.85 a week, her OAP £58.95 a week plus I get DLA High Mobility £51.40 a week which I have given up for a new car and Middle Care £49.30 a week. The wife gets AA £49.30 a week.
We did try to get Carers Allowance for each of us years ago (2007 I think) but because she was getting her OAP and me my ESA they would'nt pay it.
So we get in total £257.40 a week out of which we have to live, pay council tax and the mortgage.
When I went onto the Turn2us site, I put all of the figures in as above and it said we should be getting Pension Credit of £391.91 on top of what we are getting already making £550.71 a week in total. And on top of that, there is no council tax to pay of £27.54 a week.
I couldn't believe that that is right, so I tried it another two times making sure I put the right information in. The same answer kept on coming up.
If that is right, are they saying that we should be getting nearly another £400 a week and saving £27 a week to the council?
Surely not that we be given a new car all paid for, and be better off by nearly £420 a week!!!
It doesn't pay to work and I thought the government were cracking down on these benefits thingies.
I wonder if someone could possibly check the figures for me.
If it is right how far back can I claim this money?
Thankyou

I have now spoken to the Pension Service who have confirmed that we are entitled to the extra £391 a week, and the best bit is when I come up for renewal of my ESA, I can just drop the claim and have the Pension Credit people make up the loss!!
Wow no more medicals, no more council tax and another £400 in my bin on top of the £257 we get already and it's backdated 3 months!!!! £5200 bonus!!! Thank you to all the nice taxpayers of Britain. I wish I knew about this years ago, it seems we could have claimed it for the past 6 years.
Who says this government doesn't look after the elderly? We can think about having a nice holiday abroad this year.0 -

Many thanks for that.
I hade been using Turn2us but was shocked with the information it gave me at the end. I thought I had got something wrong.
Anyhow I have now checked it out with the New Claims team at the Pension Service this afternoon and they have confirmed that based on our income, we are missing out on £400 a week!!!
So I have made a claim over the telephone.
I still cannot believe that we are entitled to £550 in social benefits a week AND we should not be paying any council tax AND have a new Motability car all paid for (didn't realise we could have one until last Nov - have had my High Mobility for years - my GP told me about it).
It hasn't sunk in yet what we are going to do with all this extra £400 a week. I know we aren't allowed to save it.
It's like winning the lottery!
If that £400 is correct it means a backpay of over £5k
A bit sick though to find out that we should have been having this money since my wife turned 60, 6 years ago!!!
But like everything else no one pointed it out to us even though I have been getting ESA since 2009. Before that I was getting JSA.0 -
How long had you been unemployed for?0
