Info he banks supply to the DWP

Does anyone know the details of what information banks routinely supply to the government about what is in our bank accounts? I am told that the banks (Nationwide have verbally confirmed this) ruitinly tell the govt if anyone has more than £6G in the bank. so much for data protection and confidentiality.
The banks do not "routinely" supply anything, but will generally give up whatever information they are asked for as and when legislation demands it.
So they won't "tell" the government if someone has more than £6,000 in the bank but if someone makes a false declaration and the DWP actually go to the effort to ask, then the bank will freely tell.0 -

Probably because those who go out and work for a living don't like benefit thieves.
Banks have an obligation to report this sort of thing if they suspect benefit theft, just like with money laundering.0
