Scottish Power Meter Tarrif
Hi All,
We had an electricity meter fitted yesterday and it has already cost us over £5 in less than 24 hours. We were pressured to have it as we do owe money and could not come up with the large amount scottish power wanted. My partner dealt with this and was told that it would only cost £3 odd a week extra to cover what we owe on top of current consumption but we have no record of this and when the meter was fitted the engineer asked if we had had any paperwork but we have had nothing.
I suspect we have been put on a very high tarrif but after spending all morning looking at their website I cannot any info on Scottish Power tarrifs so before I ring them up can anyone tell me if they have legally got to tell me what tarrifs they have and which one they have put me on?
Thanks in advance
Willow

The PPM tariff is the same as the supplier's Standard credit tariff. If you have an existing debt, then the meter has presumably been set to recover that at an agreed rate, you can see the info by cycling through the meter display. I would have thought that SP would want to recover any debt at more than £150pa, but that is speculation without knowing how much you are in debt.
£5 a day is not unduly high (£155pm) in cold weather if you have the heating on in the daytime. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for the reply. The £5 is just for electricity. I have gas central heating and that meter is due to be fitted in a couple of weeks.0

How big is the debt owed for electricity? What does the meter display tell you?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

To read your key meter, press the blue button to cycle through the display, and here is what each screen displays;
A - Credit available
B - Display test
E - Total credit accepted
F - Total fixed charge (weekly standing charge + debt recovery rate)
G - Total kwh used
H - Total day rate kwh
I - Day rate pence per unit
j - Total night rate kwh (only visible if you are on a 2 rate meter)
K - Night rate pence per unit
S - Total debt set on meter (only visible when the key is inserted)
T - Total debt recovery rate (only visible when the key is inserted)
You will also have a screen "l" and "m" if you are on a 3 rate meter.0 -
Hi willow227,
For your information paying through a pre-payment meter is our second cheapest method of payment after monthly Direct Debit. If you e-mail me your details to onlinecomplaints@scottishpower.com I will confirm how much we are charging you per unit and also that your debt recovery rate is set at the amount agreed.
Kind regards
