Hi all,
Happy new year to all, lets hope 2012 is a good year for all, however I have a question.
I helped a friend reclaim PPI on their Credit Card from Halifax this was upheld and letter sent stating they would pay the balance of the credit card, however, two days later a cheque was received for the full value, with what seemed to be the original balance on the credit card left, but on receipt of the new statement it would seem that the paid the credit card and have then applied the cheque which was paid into the bank against the original claim, they are now trying to charge the interest on a cash advance (cheque) this can not be correct or is it a way of them claiming higher interest charges.
Any help would be great.

They should not charge interest, they put the win on the credit card and then send a cheque, then they refund the cheque amount.
Maybe the charge is showing as they have not put the account back to date yet,so the interest will show untill the next statement and be taken off then?.
Others who have had this with a credit card will post with more help,i am sure.
Happy new year to you too.0 -
Did your friend draw the cash before the refund was showing on the balance? Or did they draw the cash to put the card back into owing money again?
i.e. if the balance was £1000 and the redress was £1500, then the person can draw £500 without it being treated as a cash withdrawal. However, if they draw more than that, it would be treated as a cash withdrawal as it is putting the account back into debt.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
