I am scared of getting laser eye surgery.

Don't worry about that Zara, it's no worse than having a tooth out.

I only wear glasses for driving and occasionally if I have to sit through a presentation. Never been a hassle for me really, I have them anti glare coated and I leave them in the car so I never have to hunt for them :D

I was prescribed glasses for driving in the dark a few years back. At the time I was regularly doing 250 mile motorway trips in the dark and so was wearing them for 4 or more hours at a time. I didn't need them for anything else and, like Rummer, I just left them in the car and only wore them when I needed them.

When I had my eyes re-tested a couple of years later, they said there was no need for the glasses. This was an opticians in a different town as I'd moved by then and I'm not sure if the original one got it wrong as I definitely noticed I could read road signs better at night when I started wearing the glasses. But then noticed no difference at all when I stopped wearing then.

But in my case, the glasses definitely didn't make my eyesight worse!

Thanks, but you dont find that you need them for other things such as going round the shops etc that you didnt need them for prior to getting a pair for driving?

I am so annoyed that the laser eye surgery didnt last as I am only 28 but thats just life - but I just have a thing about not wanting to wear them on holiday/around the house where I dont need them presently. I am just hoping wearing them dont make the prescription worsen.

I already have readers, but my prescription hasn't changed in 2 years now, so I haven't started using them for anything else.
  • I found a pair i like but still a bit concerned that i will impair my day time vision which i dont have any issues with at present, as in feeling reliant on them.

Hopefully you understand what i mean? At the moment its only night time driving vision which could do with a bit of improvement but i dont want my vision at other times to suffer as a result as i manage fine at the moment during the day.

    1. Wearing the correct spectacles will NOT impair your vision. They will improve it.
    2. Your eyes will change and your vision will get worse as you age. Wearing or not wearing glasses will not affect this process. This is an inevitable part of being a human being.
