Toshiba will only refer you to a repair agent. So you can take it wherever you like, as it will be a chargeable repair.

If you wanted Toshiba to take it back you would have to get an independant report (and pay for it) to prove that there was an inherent fault. If this is proved to be so then you are entitled to at least a repair and your money refunded for the report.

If it isnt, you have to pay for it yourself for the repair yourself I'm afraid.

We bought a Toshiba 40" in 2009, the exact same thing happened to ours. We just wedged the on/off button in and just keep it on standby! Would be more hassle than worth to get fixed IMO!

Surely components on a TV should last longer than a year?

If it's anything like my Toshiba (32RV635DB) then what's happened is that the plastic piece that fits onto the button has cracked. This means the switch plunger is not being properly depressed. (The piece is basically an adaptor that's needed because the button does not line up with the switch plunger. This is probably like so to increase electrical safety).

It's an easy fix, but means taking the back off the TV (lots of screws).

I repaired mine using superglue and it's still going fine a year later. (I also bought a replacement piece as a backup in case it fails again - can't remember where I got it from though).
  • I went to the shop where i bought it and they said i have to go to the manufacturers so i looked on toshiba website and it said its only valid for 1 year too, thought a toshiba warranty was about 2 years, and they are not making this particular tv any more, feel like ive been ripped off!!
Shouldve kept my 15year old tv no probs with that one.
  • p.s Thank you all for your replys, will get hubby n dad to fix the button ;-)x
