Eon Standing Charge

Since moving into my property, to be honest, I have not been on the ball with my meter/bill/tariff set up so decided to look into it.
I have been in the property approx 10 years
I have had 2 meters. 1 normal and 1 RHT
The RHT meter has never moved from 00000 and I began to wonder what was happening.
I checked my tariff on the bill and found I was on RHT energy Plan 25
I contacted Eon and enquired about a single rate meter, I was advised , very kindly, to stick with the RHT plan as it was probably my best option and to change to single rate would cost me about £50
When the engineer arrived he informed me that the RHT meter was not and had never been connected and he was going to remove it.
I asked him about single rate and he suggested I phone Eon while he was there, which I did. I was told again it would cost me £50, to which he was puzzled and spoke to the operator to explain the meter was already in place and there was no need for any charge for a new meter. I was switched over to single rate without charge.
The engineer left with the old (unused meter)
I am not the cleverest at understanding these tariffs and bills but while looking at my bill later I got the feeling I had been taken for a ride as I thought that someone had come round screwed a box to the wall without connecting it to anything and walked away. Then I had been paying a standing charge of 8.44p for this box.
I have spoken to a very nice lady at Eon who left me a meessage saying there was not a lot they could do, but they could offer me £50.
Has anyone on here been in a similar situation ?
Thanks for any ideas or advice on this matter.....Tam

    Hi tam_60,

I hope you don't mind me popping on to this thread. :)

We do charge £50.00 for a non essential meter exchange.

Did the meter man say the RHT never worked or it was disconnected?

We have always billed you correctly, on the right tariff for your type of meter. From now on you will be billed on a single rate.

We probably won't credit you all the standing charge, as you were billed on the right tariff.

From the info you provided, the £50.00 seems pretty good.

If you would like me to have a look at it, then Email me to the Email address in my profile, and I'll have a look for you.:D

Thanks for your reply Amy, I will email you
  • Thanks for your intervention Amy.
£230 refunded from Eon and a lesson learned from me .....to take a bit more responsibility to know what tariff I'm on and whether it is the best to suit my usage.

Eh? You didn't wait for the answer to the question:(

The information provided was "when the engineer arrived he informed me that the RHT meter was not and had never been connected"

Not one of Eon's better thread responses. Surely the answer was that *if* the meter "had never been connected" all the charges would be refunded plus compo.
