new account when can I switch?
Hi everyone,
I've just set up my account with Npower after moving in to a new property. When can I start searching to switch to a cheaper tariff? Do I need to wait for the welcome pack to come through with my account number?
Also, if I find Npower are offering a cheaper deal through a comparison, can I switch to them through a comparison site even though i'm already with them?
Many thanks

You can start to switch immediately. You won't get cashback via a comparison site unless you change suppliers (not just tariffs). No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thanks
So how do I go about doing it? Will I need my account number?
I've not given my meter readings yet will that make an impact?0 -
Hi JamesN,
To ensure you're only charged for what you use, give Npower a starting meter reading from when you took over occupancy at your property. I'd also give them one from the day you call them, at least then you'll know how much the charge has been so far.
Then, go for the comparison sites; if you have no idea of annual consumption, using the national averages of 16500 kWh for gas and 3300 kWh for electricity will give you a decent enough comparison between tariffs. Of course if you are a VERY low user (out all day, no tumble dryer, etc, etc) then also look at Ebico as they have no standing charge or higher rates, just a single rate.
If you come across an Npower tariff you like the look of during comparing, you will cause yourself a whole lot of hassle if you switch to it on that site. Phone Npower instead (with another meter reading) and they will switch you to it.
Good luck!
