Changing House and Rates

Probably a silly question... I'm in the middle of changing electricity supplier, but may be moving house in a month. Definitely by March. Does this affect the rates I've been quoted? I'll be staying in the same sort of area.

The best tariff rates come with tie-in contracts, usually for a year, that have penalties if you leave early, but, so far as I'm aware none of these charge penalties if your reason for leaving is that you have moved house, but check the Terms & Conditions of your new supplier just to be on the safe side.

Once you move your contract is void, you can't take it to the new house. At the new property you will be in a deemed contract with the existing supplier, and must register with them before you can commence a further switch process.

  • Hmm. So I can't just tell them I'm moving address and ask for the supply to transfer to the new home?

No, you can't. You close the existing a/c when you leave, and commence on a deemed a/c with the existing supplier. Then you can switch if you wish.
