I don't know much about bailiffs, but if the car the car is your only possession, then no doubt they would levy distraint on that.

Best bet is to take it up with council and offer to pay original fine.

The "rights" that they have, are because you have provided that address as the address of the registered keeper of the car.

You have not really said if you live there with your partner, but the bailiffs will remove anything that belongs to you from the house.

  • i will phone up an offer to pay orignal fine 2 morra

but can any 1 clarify laws on baliefs ....just cos my car is taxted to that address doesnt mean i am living there full time which i am not ....so therefor they ownly have rights to my possesions which in this case is only a car as i dont own the house or have never been on electoral role

Ok, so you tell them you don't live there...or your partner does.

You are then going to have to provide an address where you do live.
The bailiffs will take your goods to cover the value of the debt when the goods have been sold. So no doubt for £700 they will take goods possibly worth 2-3K.

It would be just the same if you were renting, the bailiffs couldn't touch the property then, just what you own.

    Try googling bailiff rights.

I thought the registered keeper was obliged to register their own address with the DVLA.
