About to reclaim credit card PPI cancelled in 2008

I have recently successfully reclaimed approx £12,000 from Natwest in loan PPI and have now decided to 'combat' my credit card ppi.

However having done lots of reading on sites and this forum have just found one single statement that says that there is a 3 year time limit to reclaim if ppi is cancelled which may have stuffed me :(.

I had PPI applied to several credit cards from at least 2005 and in 2008 when I became pregnant I for obvious reasons started looking at my finances and noted that I had PPI, I then became aware that it was not compulsory to have this on your credit card and requested that all my credit card companies cancel the PPI (but naively not aware at time of the mis-selling claims) .

Question is now am I unable to claim for these PPI policies as I didn't actually realise that I could reclaim until middle of last year or should I just still try as have copies of statements etc??

Thanks for any insight!!

It would depend on whether it was missold or not.

Simply having the cover does not mean a missale took place whilst ticking a box to choose it without bothering to read the form would be a mispurchase, not a missale.

If you had to actively opt out of it then it might amount to a missale.

Even if that was the case, the card provider seems to be entitled to argue that if you were not aware that it was not compulsory then you would not have known to cancel it in 2008.

If you only became aware that it was not compulsory in 2008 then surely that was the time to complain, not 2012. That in turn means you became aware that you had cause for complaint more than three years ago so any cover taken out more than six years ago would seem to be able to be timebarred.
  • Thanks for the reply.

I agree that the time delay in complaining is an issue but when I cancelled the ppi I was advised only then that it was not compulsory but was ignorantly unaware that there was grounds for complaint for mis-selling i only became aware of this recently.

I unfortunately have believed up until now that financial institutions charge you what they are entitled to and you have to accept it or not have the service, stupid me!!

Suppose I can only try and see what happens!!
